Top shows for Jansenville mohair congress
02 November 2009

While the International Mohair Summit takes place in Jansenville this week, the town will also be transformed into a party venue with some of South Africa's top names performing. While the summit runs from tomorrow to Sunday, the Ikwezi Mohair Festival gets under way on Friday. The main performing act on Friday night is Hip-Hop Pantsula, also known as HHP. His catchy rhythms and multilingual lyrics appeal across various markets, earning him two major 2009 Sama awards with best male artist and best rap album. HHP will be preceded by Martin Kernekamp, Patrick Lindoor and other Eastern Cape performers. Idols winners Sasha-Lee and Jody will headline Saturday's performances, while Melvin Matthews and lan Venter will be among the Eastern Cape acts in the line-up. Making up the rest of the daily stage and musical entertainment will be performers hailing Jansenville and surrounds including praise singers, poets, gospel singers and choirs; as well as dance performers in traditional, hip-hop and ballroom styles. Other highlights of the festival include the Saturday Street Parade, the Kaapse Klopse, The Mohair Festival Pageant for girls, boys and teens, sports demonstrations and matches, car and bike displays, indigenous games and lots of competitions. Children will be kept entertained for hours with rides, face painting, clowns and jumping castles. There will also be a fireworks display from Johannesburg.
