New mountain bike race
07 January 2011

A great new event has been added to the local mountain bike cycling calendar. The Cob Creek/JBay Cycle Club Mtb Challenge is scheduled to take place on January 16. Starting and finishing at the Cob Creek wine estate on the outskirts of Jeffreys Bay the race offers three distances and heaps of fun for the entire family. For novices or the not so fit there will be a 10km fun ride, while the 40km route follows a low degree of technical difficulty. However, organisers have warned the 63km course must not be underestimated. Apart from steep climbs it follows single jeep tracks along district roads and is of a moderate to high technical difficulty. However, riding through a game farm with lots of game to view makes it worthwhile. Although there will be water points along the way participants are encouraged to carry enough liquid with them. All entrants will receive medals and there will be many prizes and lucky draws. No cyclist will be allowed to participate without wearing a helmet. Pre-race entries close on January 12 and registration on the day will start at 6am. The Challenge (63km) sets off at 7.30am, the Race (40km) at 8am and the Fun Ride (10km) at 8.30am. Parents need not worry about the kiddies as there will be a jumping castle and face painting to keep them entertained. The restaurant at the venue will be open and the estate will offer orchard tours at a discounted price.
