- The Absa Kirkwood Wildlife Festival in Kirkwood - 1to 3 July
- The ABSA Kirkwood Wildlife Festival or ‘Wildsfees’, as it is commonly known, has become one of the top festivals in the country. This year the festival celebrates its 10th anniversary. The event attracts more and more visitors each year with the promise of being the “wildest jol in the Eastern Cape”. This annual festival, held in the Sunday’s River Valley town of Kirkwood, is a weekend full of family fun with hundreds of stalls selling everything from delicious food to handmade wildlife inspired arts and crafts and even clothing. Exciting competitions are held over the weekend and there is even a special program to keep the kids entertained. Last year’s festival drew in record crowds of over 30 000 people, all eager to take part in the festivities and be entertained. Some of the countries most famous artists, along with popular dancers and entertainers take to the massive festival stage each year much to the delight of the huge crowds. This year, a host of local artists along with popular national acts such as Heinz Winkler, Dr Victor and The Rasta Rebels, Kurt Darren, Elvis Blue, Emo Adams and the Parlotones, which will be live in the Eastern Cape after a 100 city tour of the USA and Germany, among others, will be on hand to entertain visitors. The festival is focused on ‘going green’ this year and also features the popular Walk on the Wildside expo and the boerbull and cat shows. The three day festival taking place on 1-3 July is also host to South Africa’s second largest live game auction and some fantastic food and wine tasting.
